Ryan discovered his passion for winemaking while he was in high school working for McKinley Vineyards, a small family-run winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley.
His days were filled with long hours of bottling wine while listening to Jerry Garcia and occasionally jumping into fermenters. This passion led him to the University of California, Davis where he earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Viticulture and Enology.
After graduation, Ryan decided he wanted to focus on crafting elegant Pinot Noir. He returned to Oregon for harvest at Stoller Vineyards & Winery. The following year, he went on what he calls his “whirlwind winemaking tour,” completing four vintages in a single year working harvests in Australia, New Zealand, the Russian River Valley, and an urban winery in Portland.
Ryan decided to put down roots in Oregon spending two years as a cellar lead at Domaine Serene Winery. However, the allure of Emeritus was too great to resist. He moved back to California and joined the Emeritus team as Assistant Winemaker in 2014.
We are extremely lucky to have someone with his experience and knowledge of fine Pinot Noir. On his days off, you can find Ryan at brunch, summiting Mount Burdell with his dog, and sipping Pinot with his fiancé.
