Tasting Notes

2020 Pinot Hill — NEW RELEASE

This wine blossoms from the glass with entrancing aromas of earthy, wild berries juxtaposed with ocean air and wilted night flowers; it is as aromatically detailed as it is dense. Flavors of rhubarb and cranberry are heightened by the natural acidic tension creating a plush mid-palate. The fine-grained tannins harmoniously weave into the finish, completing a captivating and intriguing journey. This meticulous blend of both the East and West facing slopes of the vineyard perfectly encapsulates the dramatic tension of the East side balanced with the voluptuous and hedonistic West; it is classic Pinot Hill.

2020 Pinot Hill East — NEW RELEASE

Harvested a week later than the West side, this is a perfect example of the effect of vineyard aspect. All elements of the Pinot Hill East are in perfect lockstep, first evoking notes of driftwood and crushed roses followed by small, wild, coastal berries grown in chilly sunlight, containing more skin than flesh. The palate greets you with layered components of savory herbs and saline notes followed by cranberry, and citrus peel.  This will age slowly and gracefully as the non-fruited notes continue to evolve and weave even more deeply into the wine.

2020 Pinot Hill West — NEW RELEASE

The perfect counterpoint to Pinot Hill East, the West side of the vineyard was harvested a full week earlier yet displays slightly higher elements of fruit maturity, an excellent demonstration of vines lavished with cool, afternoon sunlight. The aroma is heady, brooding, and exotic with notes of mossy bark, juicy pluot, black tea, mint, and Asian spices. The palate is full of fleshy energy, plush and opulent but held together tightly by vivacious, mouth-watering acidity and supple, integrated tannin. Those familiar with previous vintages of Pinot Hill West will instantly recognize the rewarding and slightly hedonistic nature that has become the hallmark of this wine.

2020 Wesley’s Reserve — NEW RELEASE

This wine displays the classic aromas of dense, brushy forest floor, brown spices, fresh clay, and night blooming jasmine that have made the Wesley’s a favorite of many. On the palate, one is greeted with notes of small, wild berries and resinous Earth which transition to the incredibly round and melted mid-palate which has been a hallmark of the 2020 vintage, all leading to a crescendo of rich and supple tannins that are finely detailed and rewarding.

Food & Wine Recommendation

Beef Bourguignon

Our featured recipe of the month is Keith’s take on Juila Child’s Beef Bourguignon. Savory, seared beef with fork-tender vegetables, simmered in a rich full-flavored sauce.  A culinary cult-classic that pairs perfectly with our 2020 Wesley’s Reserve.
